Building Homes
One of our biggest ministries is for workcamps to help build homes for families. Many families have land but not enough money to get materials for a house. So we lay a cement foundation, and then build a small house on it. The families will often add on to it later as they are able, but it is a stable, safe structure to start with. Nothing is as special handing over the keys to a house for a family that has gone without.
Bible Schools
One of the most fun and rewarding ministries we do is offering mini Bible schools for the local children. Often groups will bring supplies, or simply think up fun ways of telling & involving kids in the telling of Bible stories. The smallest things can bring so much joy. Coloring is a big hit. It is always great to take some time to share the Bible and have fun playing alongside the children.
Bible Study
There are many people who are hungry for God’s word where we serve. We seek to give them the tools to study the Bible for themselves and in groups so that they can grow strong spiritually as a community.
Dispensing Food
Many in the area we serve in have trouble getting enough food to feed their families. For most it is truly a day to day struggle. Much of the work that was to be had in the nearby landfill is gone since the landfill closed in 2006. We give each group a chance to bag up and pass out some simple food staples that can keep families going. It is such a joy to give freely and tell them it is because of Jesus’ love for us.
Workcamp Info
-Workcamp groups are limited to a size of 15 people, so that everyone can have a meaningful experience & have a chance to get involved.
-Your group comes in on a Monday & stays through Saturday. We stay in a bunk house with separate men’s & women’s sleeping quarters, 2 bathrooms, & 4 showers.
-The day starts with devotions & a quiet time for everyone to reflect on God’s word & what they have seen. Then it is time for breakfast & off for the day’s work.
